Åkermanite glass microspheres: Preparation and perspectives of sinter‐crystallization

Glass microspheres with the exact stoichiometry of åkermanite (Ca2MgSi2O7), one most promising modern bioceramics, were produced by flame synthesis method. The distinctive high cooling rate was found to prevent crystallization; size amorphous microbeads could be correlated partially crystallized precursor powders, deriving from conventional melt quenching and milling. glass characterized in terms crystallization sintering behavior, perspective applications additive manufacturing åkermanite-based scaffolds. results showed that merwinite (Ca3MgSi2O8) is primary product devitrification; only a second stage, reacts residual yields åkermanite. rapid crystallization, implying limited viscous flow sintering, tested as an opportunity create components complex porosity distribution.
